Black Female Professor And Black Female Student Attacked By White Male Professor At Monroe Community College
Students Invite Members Of Citizens United For Real Education (C.U.R.E.) To Campus For Support
At the invitation of students from the Pan-African Club and the Black Student Union at Monroe Community College, on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 members of Citizens United For Real Education (C.U.R.E.) attended the first in a series of forums concerning ongoing racism at Monroe Community College. As you can see by the schedule below --- the next forum will take place on Tuesday, May 9, 2006. According to students, these forums are related to numerous, ongoing racist acts at the college (Brighton campus). The situation was heightened recently when a white, male professor verbally attacked and threatened a black female professor and a black female student. The president of the college, Dr. Thomas Flynn attended the first forum on May 2nd, and told participants that a full investigation of the incident was launched, and that appropriate action has been taken. However, during the forum, the female professor who was attacked said that the administration had made promises to her that were not kept. Dr Felix Okoye from SUNY Brockport has been invited as a guest speaker at next Tuesday's forum (5/9/06). The students have a list of demands, which they plan to press to have fulfilled. Kwasi is one of the main student organizers. He can be contacted at the following email address panafmcc@yahoo.com.
