Hilderbrant Receives Endorsement of National Organization for Women

Chris Hilderbrant, local disability rights activist and Green Party candidate for Monroe County Legislature, announced today that he has received the endorsement of the Rochester Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) in the race for Monroe County Legislature, District 6, representing the Eastern portion of Greece and much of Charlotte. <!--break--> <p>Greece, NY -   Chris Hilderbrant, local disability rights activist and Green Party candidate for Monroe County Legislature, announced today that he has received the endorsement of the Rochester Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) in the race for Monroe County Legislature, District 6, representing the Eastern portion of Greece and much of Charlotte.</p><p>“The Political Action Committee of the Rochester Chapter of the National Organization for Women is pleased to announce our endorsement of Chris Hilderbrant’s bid for election to the Monroe County Legislature, District 6,” said Linda Stephens, Chair of the Political Action Committee.</p><p>Since its founding in 1966, NOW's goal has been to take action to bring about equality for all women.  NOW works to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools, the justice system, and all other sectors of society; secure abortion, birth control and reproductive rights for all women; end all forms of violence against women; eradicate racism, sexism and homophobia; and promote equality and justice in our society.</p><p><strong>“I am proud that the Rochester Chapter of NOW has chosen to endorse me.  My record of advocacy for the civil rights of all and my commitment to quality health care for all are shared by NOW and I look forward to working with them throughout the remainder of this campaign and when elected</strong>,” said Hilderbrant.  “I am particularly pleased by this endorsement because NOW is one of few non-disability organizations that has a significant and strong disability rights platform.  By working together, we can accomplish great things for all of our people.”</p><p>Hilderbrant played a key role in passage of two state laws in the past three years.  Most significantly, Hilderbrant worked with Republican Senator Ray Meier and Democratic Assemblyman Kevin Cahill to pass the Nursing Facility Transition and Diversion Medicaid Waiver.  When fully implemented, this new program will enable seniors and people with disabilities to receive needed care and supports in their own home, instead of nursing homes, at less cost to Medicaid and taxpayers.</p>
