Two Democrats Partner to Win Primary
July 1, 2005: Today, two Rochester residents, Harry Davis and Chris Maj announced they will join forces to take back the city for its residents from the loss of resources due to suburban sprawl and the excesses of government.
Harry Davis is a candidate for a Seat-At-Large on the Rochester City Council. Chris Maj is a candidate for Mayor of Rochester, New York.
Â
“I will expand the urban-suburban schools program. I will create a city lotto that actually gives money back to our schools. I have a strategy for us to declare victory in the War on Drugs.†says Maj.
Â
Davis, a substitute teacher in the Rochester City School District, ran unsuccessfully in 2003 as a write-in candidate for the Rochester City Council. As he did in that campaign, he will continue to stress environmental issues and the sprawl that continues to deteriorate the quality of life in Rochester.
Â
As part of his campaign, Davis will push for major restructuring of the Rochester Genesee Regional Transit Authority (RGRTA) to quit the hub-and-spoke system and add 7-8 regional bus terminals throughout the bus system. (www.peopleforabetterbussystem.org). Davis continues his strong campaign against placing the bus terminal for the Renaissance Square at an underground site at the corner of Main Street and Clinton Avenue.
Â
Davis said, “With the recent suggestions of the Urban Land Institute for downtown Rochester, it is clear, objective and informed observers have confirmed what I have been saying all along about the Renaissance Square in my campaign for the Rochester City Council.
Â
"The proposed bus garage at Main & Clinton is in the wrong place with the wrong configuration. It must not be at Main & Clinton. It must be at another location."
Â
During the month of July, Maj and Davis will be campaigning door-to-door in the city to acquire the necessary 1,000 signatures for a ballot line in the Democratic primary election. The web site for Maj is www.rochestermayor.com . The web site for Davis is: www.harry-davis.com .
A registered Democrat living in Corn Hill neighborhood, Maj works full-time as a computer programmer for small businesses from his home office, operating as Penguin PBX Solutions.
Â
Davis, in addition to teaching school, operates an Internet business, www.ergonomicbackstore.com .
