Ithaca, NY- university ave, uphill from the cemetary
After four solid years of intense community, student, faculty, and staff opposition, Cornell University still plans on paving the historic Redbud Woods to build a 176 space parking lot. University officials have ignored petitions, three student assembly resolutions, and dozens of faculty letters. When students engaged in a non-violent sit-in and lock down in the university’s administration building the Cornell President Jeff Lehman responded by ordering CU police to use pain compliance to remove students.
Surveyors and construction crews are currently on site making final preparations for the destruction of the woods. Since Wednesday afternoon, Redbud woods activists have been occupying a tree in the woods to protect the section of the woods. Students and community members are preparing to engage in non-violent direct actions in the woods. Organizers are inviting all supporters to come occupy the woods and build a free state.
