Women at Hobart/William Smith Take Back the Night
Primary tabs
Over 300 women marched in protest sexual assault
Over 300 students and faculty at this upstate campus marched under
umbrellas on this rainy October evening to show solidarity for a safe
campus. Last week a woman was assaulted by a stranger near a campus
parking lot. The turnout far surpassed what the organizers expected
and there was a
shortage of the chant lists, but women huddled together and raised
their voices in unison.
Sexual violence feeds on silence!
WOMEN UNITE! TAKE BACK THE NIGHT!
NO MORE SILENCE, NO MORE VIOLENCE
What do we want?
Safe campus!
When do we want it?
NOW!
Women united
Will never be divided
These were the chants that echoed through the campus as a long line of
protesting women marched through the quadrangles and dorms of the
William Smith/Hobart Campus. As they marched they laid white
carnations on locations around the campus that were the alleged spots
at which violence against women has occurred.Â
