Take action to Stop Sinclair

Greetings,

By now, I'm sure you're aware of Sinclair Broadcast Group's plan to use their privileged access to the public airwaves to sway the election to fit their agenda.

Free Press has put together a comprehensive action site for those who want to fight back: http://www.sinclairwatch.org/act . It is presently a featured link at Common Dreams and Alternet, and MoveOn is sending their membership to it. We thought your readers may be interested as well.

The site directs users by zip code to effective actions they can take:

- Those who live near a Sinclair station whose license is up for renewal are given tools to challenge it. Others are directed to apply pressure to local affiliates or to Sinclair's national headquarters;
- It gives users the ability to send direct comments to the public record at the FCC, crucial for giving those who are fighting media consolidation at the FCC (like Commissioners Copps and Adelstein) the ammunition they need;
- It also features comprehensive links to other groups that are taking action, including local advertiser databases.

Together, we can beat Sinclair. We hope you'll consider providing a link to http://www.sinclairwatch.org/act for your users if you have a website. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Thanks for all your efforts. Keep up the fight,
Matt Quagliozzi

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
