Canada Warns Citizens Travel To US Can Be Dangerous

Canada has issued a recommendation that its citizens of Middle
 
Eastern descent should avoid travel to the United States
 
because of police harassment.

The move is in protest to new US regulations which require
 
that persons born in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, and Syria be
 
fingerprinted and photographed upon entry to the US- even if
 
they are citizens of other countries.
 

 
Hundreds of thousands of such people are citizens of Canada.
 

 
Regulations of this sort also harm both Canadian and US
 
business. In the aftermath of September 11, attempts at
 
a crackdown at the border had to be abandoned when they
 
resulted in traffic jams more than fifteen miles long at
 
border crossings in the Detroit area which caused automotive
 
plants to shut down for lack of parts stuck at the border.
 

 
I'm going to be going through Canada this Thanksgiving to
 
visit my parents in Michigan- I hope I'll be able to get
 
through the border without running into this kind of nastiness-
 
I've noticed Greyhound buses often are singled out for heavy
