Chair of the Green Party of Monroe County, David Atias, will formally step down from his position and announce his candidacy for a vacant seat on the Rochester City School Board. Vice-Chair, Jason Nabewaniec will take over as Chair for the remainder of the year. "I have been relishing my role of Chair of this up-and-coming party. In the past seven months I have met scores of amazing, wonderful people in the community," says Atias, "but it had come to our attention that there was a very real possibility that there would be a person running unopposed for this vacant seat. That is unacceptable in any circumstance, but even more so with all of the troubles the school district is facing." Last year, Atias tried for a seat on the School Board in his first attempt at running for public office. He will be running to fill a seat left vacant by David Perez, who after receiving numerous endorsements and the most votes of any candidate that year, quit after two months on the board. "Dave Atias was the most qualified candidate last year and he is the most qualified candidate this year," said Party Treasurer, Joseph Young. The Green Party Chair will be taken over by Jason Nabewaniec, "I am excited to be continuing the tradition of local Green Party Chairs who are dedicated activists, such as Dave, Jason Crane and Jon Greenbaum. We now have outstanding candidates to work for at the local, state and national levels." The Green Party is running David McReynolds for US Senate and a ticket of David Cobb and Pat LaMarche for the White House. At the press conference both Atias and Nabewaniec will discuss in more detail, the upcoming campaign and the direction of the local Green Party.
