Please pass it along.
On July 10 2004, Sullivan County will be host to a remarkable festival in Parksville, NY (exit 98 off RT 17) featuring a full day and evening of local musical artists, speakers, environmental displays, unique vendors and workshops, and a kids learning and fun center.
The Blue Sky Peace Festival is a totally volunteer-run benefit production whose profits will be offered entirely to local charitable and community organizations.
The purpose of our gathering is multifold. Sullivan County's population is very spread out around a mostly rural area. There are many folks here who would like to become more informed on environmental and health issues, or who wish to become more involved in their communities on a social and/or political level but don't know where to go.
We are inviting all environmental, community and political activist groups to set up a free table or booth at our festival. We are also actively searching for environmental/alternative energy/educational displays to be set up as well as guerilla theatre, jugglers, troubadours, roustabouts and other troublemakers. Persons or organizations who offer workshops, vendors with handmade, unique items such as musical instruments, jewelry, herbal tinctures, etc., and alternative health practitioners are also being sought.
By offering this opportunity and combining it with wonderful live music, great food and informative speakers, people get to learn things they might not have known, hear music they would have otherwise not heard, and get to interact and network with their neighbors.
We are offering this all at a great affordable price at which an entire family could attend without having to take out a second mortgage. We are encouraging families and children to come. We are focusing much energy on our kids space which will feature activity projects such as paper making, jewelry, theatre production, and many wonderful and creative activities which keep them interested and having fun. Recycling is also a major theme of the festival. We aim to be able to recycle at least 75% of all products that would have ended up in the landfill. To this end, we are requiring all food vendors to serve their products in or on paper (no Styrofoam).
Festivals such as this are what Sullivan County needs to bring folks into the area, and make them want to live here. If you have any questions or are interested in setting up a vending booth, conducting a workshop, or belong to a environmental or political group and would like to set up a table, please email me at deszack@bestweb.net .
See you in July!
