Introduction:
This is documented evidence of the unprovoked Tear Gas and Mace ASSAULT on RIT students exhibiting their constitutional right to assemble.
The only valid actions the police force should have undertaken is the proper identification of everyone present to ensure no underage drinking, and the arrest and prosecution of anyone disobeying the law. After the breaking of a bottle by a singular individual, without any verbal warning the police force fired tear gas rounds out of weapons resembling paintball guns, and shot mace at anyone not running away. I personally witnessed a police officer shooting a man four times, and once more once he was on the ground, for simply walking away from them.
This situation is absolutely unacceptable, and violates several constitutional rights, including the ones below:
Amendment I – Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the
free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Amendment IX – The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights,
shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
Fourteenth Amendment – .... No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the
United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property,
without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction
the equal protection of the laws …
