Organizers estimate total participation in March at over 1 million
Planned Parenthood of the Rochester and Syracuse Region sent eleven buses to attend the “March for Women’s” lives Sunday. The March was organized by several national organizations that work on issues of reproductive rights. Reports by participants and media suggest over one million individuals participated in the event. Shelly Page Director of communications and public relations for Planned Parenthood in Rochester said the march “was a huge statement about the broad cross section of Americans who are pro choice. Pro choice in all senses of reproductive rights. Grandmothers and teenagers, a rainbow coalition, people of all ethnicities coming together. Not just women, but lots of men.”
Page emphasized that the event represents the beginning of work that needs to be done. “Clear calls to action were made, this is not the end but the beginning of organizing that needs to get done, such as voter registration.”
