Stop the slaughter of the last wild buffalo in America.
Call your Congressional Representative today!

----------------------------------

Buffalo Supporters,

This week has already begun on a bitter note for the last herd of wild buffalo in America. Sunday evening the National Park Service captured another 32 wild buffalo at the Stephens Creek Trap inside of Yellowstone National Park. Monday morning the Park Service captured another 120 wild buffalo. Volunteers report that they are luring buffalo into the trap with hay.

The numbers are appalling. At Stephens Creek alone, the Park Service has captured 463 wild buffalo in the past month. They have already killed 165 buffalo. There are 154 buffalo being held in captivity, roughly half of them are yearlings that have been vaccinated with an ineffective cattle vaccine. The Park Service is domesticating this unique herd, destroying the wild quality that makes them a national treasure. The most recent 152 buffalo captured are awaiting their fate. They will be subjected to gruesome sampling procedures, held in place by head clamps with noses pinched by metal clasps. It is a cruel and bloody sight. And it is being carried out with your tax dollars by Park Service employees responsible for preserving this last herd of wild buffalo in America.

Take action today to stop the senseless slaughter of an American icon. Buffalo Field Campaign coordinators are in Washington, DC now building more momentum to pass the Yellowstone Buffalo Preservation Act. The bill calls for a three year moratorium on the hazing, capturing and killing of Yellowstone buffalo; expands the range that buffalo are allowed to roam; requires the dismantling of the Stephens Creek Trap inside Yellowstone National Park; and gives the Park Service sole jurisdiction over buffalo within the Park.

This week is our National Call in Week for the Buffalo. Thanks to your efforts, we continue to gain cosponsors for H.R. 3446, the Yellowstone Buffalo Preservation Act. We currently have 75 House Representatives signed on to this critical legislation.

We will be meeting with dozens of U.S. Representatives this week and hosting a Buffalo Summit on Capitol Hill. We need your help in making these efforts as effective as possible. Please call your representative this week and urge them to support the bill. Check http://www.wildrockies.org/buffalo/politico/3446.html for talking points and to see if your Representative has signed on. If they haven't, give them a call and strongly urge them to do so. If they have, please thank them and encourage them to speak with their colleagues. You can contact your Representative by calling the Capitol Switchboard at 800-839-5276, and asking to be transferred to his/her office. Or, you can use http://www.house.gov/writerep to look up your Representative and send them an email. It only takes a few minutes to help the buffalo.

Thank you once again for your support. Let’s flood their offices with calls to end the slaughter of the Yellowstone buffalo herd. Please send this alert to your friends, family, and colleagues. Together we can stop the senseless slaughter of the last wild buffalo in America.
