Joe Woods has been in his house 26 years now. For 7 years, the Woods family has been trying to negotiate their mortgage with Midfirst bank. Asking 90,000+ dollars on house assessed at about 28,000 - it just ain't right. He was served with his 72 hour notice to vacate the house on Monday. Joe Woods deserves to stay in his home. Everyone deserves to have a home. Housing should be a human right, not a commodity.
These predatory corporations, like Midfirst Bank, scout for failing mortgages when families are falling on hard times. Often they buy them from original lenders without the home owners consent, most times without their knowledge, until the next bill comes in the mail. These bills get confusing. "Who is this bank? And why does it say my mortgage is owed to them, plus an extra $300 a month?" Such exorbitant fees seem absurd and unattainable to families already struggling to pay medical bills and put food on the table. We need to let Midfirst that we know their game, and they're not welcome to play it in our city!
