Due to the politics involved with underfunding much needed benefits to our military veterans and frustrations with recent controversies surrounding large charitable organizations,  Brock Thrasher, a private citizen of East Irondequoit, has taken it upon himself to start up a small business apparel line with the sole purpose of directly donating a good part of his sales profits to area veterans and their families according to needs.

Local Hero Bravery Gear will be celebrating its official launch this Friday, July 15 at R.E.D. (Rochester Event Destination) located at 46 Mt. Hope Ave, starting at 7:30pm until 9:30pm. It is free admission, refreshments, and music performance by Chris Brown of Six Ways to Sunday. All are welcome and will be family friendly.

Brock believes strongly that the needed changes within our communities starts with the individual. He is often heard stating, "You can not hand the responsibility off to a politician; the responsibility for change is ours." Brock began his part by volunteering his valued time and resources to help open a new community center, The Pillar, and a new non-for-profit performing arts center featuring the The Venue at the Pillar and the Roc Room, all located at 46 Mt. Hope Ave. Brock took an additional step and opened R.E.D. (Rochester Event Destination) in April 2016, an event space available to the Rochester community for special events, meetings, workshops, art exhibits, music performances, and co-work opportunities. Local Hero is his proudest endeavor yet.

We encourage the Rochester community to partake in something special this Friday and join us at R.E.D. at 46 Mt Hope Ave, and help us kick off Local Hero Bravery Gear and its pursuit to help meet the needs of our local veterans and their families.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
