Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union, or ATU, local 282 were joined by members of other unions and community members at RGRTA headquarters to protest the decision by CEO, Bill Carpenter to end transportation for the Rochester City School District. This decision will cost 144 jobs and leave over 7000 students without a plan for transportation to and from school after this school year.
The decision to end the contract was announced on April 28, came without out community involvement or time for RCSD to come up with a plan to transport summer school children or students in the fall. Mayor Warren supported the RTS decision and raised no concerns about there not being a plan in place to transport the students.
