Support Cintas Workers

Charges will be filed on Friday against the company for a number of violations, including the violent shoving of an employee by the General Manager. Please join the Rochester Labor-Religion Coalition, clergy, students, and progressives from across the community to tell management, “Stop the Violence” against your employees. Let them know, Rochester is watching and WE WILL NOT TOLERATE VIOLENCE AGAINST OUR WORKERS

When: Friday, 2/13, 12:00 pm

Where: Cintas, 333 W. Main St. (across from Nick Tahou’s)

Why: Because management has become physically violent with the workers
Background:

Cintas is the largest uniform and industrial launderer in the Country. It has posted 34 years of consecutive growth, a record surpassed only by Wal-Mart and ADP. Yet despite industry leading profits, including a total of $2.7m in sales last year, Cintas insists on driving down industry standards for wages, health insurance, and respect for its employees. Conditions in the Rochester plant include the following:

* Racial discrimination; two suites have been filed on behalf of African-American men who were denied equal access to higher paying jobs and then fired.

* Wage and hour violations; a class action suit has been filed for workers who were systematically deprived of overtime pay.

* Health insurance; workers must pay premiums for a full year before they are covered by the Cintas owned insurance company.

* Harassment; workers suspected of union sympathy have been singled out for intimidation, harassment, and physical violence.

In addition to the rally Friday, The Rochester Labor-Religion Coalition is closing its annual Fast in front of Cintas. Details follow:

March 4th

12:00 pm

333 W. Main St, (across from Nick Tahou’s)

Join The Rochester Labor-Religion Coalition and the employees of Cintas to close the annual Rochester Labor-Religion Coalition Fast and to draw community attention to the exploitation these workers.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
