Local transit officials attempt to secure state funding through Gov Pataki's office for current transit center/arts center proposal <!--break--> http://www.democratandchronicle.com/news/0106ES2S1CU_news.shtml Today's Democrat and Chronicle article article by JSpector shows local officials in favor of the proposed transit center plan at Main and Clinton in combination with the performing arts center waiting on Governor Pataki to mention this plan at his State of the State address to bolster support for state funding. It is a very well written article that thoroughly covers their side of it. We can hope for the same thorough coverage soon by someone at the paper that has said they will be covering the entire issue.(we eagerly await this). (It is odd that it was only first discussed publicly by Maggie Brooks, our new county executive, in October, just a couple of months ago!) In the article, Mayor Johnson expresses concern for leaving the other corners of that intersection vacant. '“We can’t just ignore what it means to have one healthy corner across the street from two dying corners,” said Johnson, who also plans to attend Pataki’s address. Assemblyman David Gantt, D-Rochester, said he hasn’t discussed the project with Brooks but would be willing to push for a project the community wants.' State assemblyman Gantt states that he will be supportive of any project *the community wants*. Does the community want it? Let them know. CALL: the office of the governor tomorrow morning before his "state of the state" address and all week long as well to let Governor Pataki know that this is not what the people of this community want. Office of Citizen Services, Office of Governor Pataki: 518-474-8390 *** Call Assemblyman David Gantt and the rest of our Assemblypersons and let him know all week that this is not what the people of this community want! He has said he wants to do what the people want, let's let him (and them) know. *David Gantt* (NYS Assembly) 454-3670 Susan John (NYS Assembly) 244-5255 Joseph Morelle 467-0410 William Reilich 225-4190 Thanks. Let's leave no stone unturned. Sarah, pfabbs
