Where are all of the American Flags?

Where are all the American Flag stickers?

I noticed something interesting two weeks ago and again this morning.

Where are all of the American Flag stickers?

A couple months ago... it seemed like more than half of the cars that you passed on the highway, around here, had one of these stickers on it. A sticker, or... a Nylon Flag (Made in China) clipped it the window.
I swear that at least half of the big, beefy SUV's had at least one decal on it. You know... displaying that the vehicles occupant was more politically aware than ANYONE else.
(Well it certainly seemed that way to someone that never agreed to the validity of attacking Iraq.)
"We support the troops", "United We Stand", "Let's Roll", "God Bless America", "These colors don't run", "Blah blah blah".

Two weeks ago, I went to an event in downtown Portland.
It was probably a 15 mile drive, through pretty heavy highway traffic, to the light-rail parking lot. On the way there... I probably passed hundreds of cars... streaming around a busy city and the surrounding suburbs.

After a few miles, I began to notice something. Then... I made a conscious effort to look.

You know how many "Pro-America" stickers I saw?
One

You know how many clip on American Flags I saw?
Zero

That's right... nada.
Out of all of those cars, I only saw a single "We support Our Troops" stickers. (A young woman was driving the car.)

This morning, I again, noticed the same thing.

Since I walk to work every morning... it get's a little boring walking the same, exact path every time. So this morning, I decided to take the old mill stairs.
These are two flights of probably 200 iron steps that lead from atop a hill down to the main parking lot of the Georgia Pacific paper mill. As I walked down, I could picture the thousands of men, that walked that way to and from work everyday. Lunch box in hand.

This part of town is as blue collar as blue collar gets.

During the last year... the vast majority of cars (trucks) have displayed a "Pro War" item on them. (I have seen trucks with 4x6 foot flags flapping from poles stuck in their beds.)
I have seen countless decals of Calvin peeing on "Osama", Calvin peeing on the word "Terrorism", Calvin peeing on "Iraq" and Calvin just peeing.
I have watched a truck pass me by that had a Confederate Flag (Rebel Flag) licence plate in the back window with an American flag sticker on the bumper. (Do they cancel each other out?)

Anyway... as I walked through that parking lot this morning... I counted all of the stickers that I passed.
Walking through hundreds of cars, I only saw ONE sticker.
One.
It was a faded "Elect Bush" sticker, that had 1/4 of it ripped off. That's it. All the other were gone.

Although the media isn't showing it... I think the American people are beginning to wake up.
