Ever been part of a movement that had momentum but you or others in your the movement didn't feel confident in engaging in nonviolent direct action? Some of the great social movements of our time (e.g., Civil Rights Movement, Anti-Nuclear Movement, Central American Solidarity Movement) developed trainings in Nonviolent Direct Action that trained and empowered thousands of people to take part decisive action that changed the course of history. Many of us want to create that level of training and empowerment in the Rochester-area.
On December 6, 2014 at the South Wedge Mission those interested in building a cross-movement network (e.g., climate justice, fracking, peace, worker's rights, housing justice, police accountability, etc.) of trainers and skillsets around nonviolent direct action will be meeting to pool our resources and knowledge to develop a training curriculum, recruit trainers, plan trainings, and other ways to disseminate the capacities for social movements in and around Rochester to engage in mass nonviolent direct action. If you want to part of the process join us!
