Name: Liberty Screams: Reflections in Poetry and Prose on Mass Incarceration and Parole Reform
Description: On Saturday, Oct. 25th from 7:00 – 9:00pm at the Flying Squirrel Community Space, Poets and Activists will come together to read and reflect on the tragedy of Mass Incarceration, specifically referencing the writing of Jalil Muntaqim. Presenters include poets: Paulette Swartzfager, and Pat Schwartz (co-founder with Jalil of the Auburn Correctional poetry group, and the facilitator of the Auburn group for 13 years). Activists include: Jean Douthwright, Emily Good, and Michael Argaman.
The discussion will take the form of a roundtable, inviting conversation with those who attend and punctuated by reading the Jalil’s and poetry by other incarcerated men and women. The parole reform proposal by Jalil will also be presented. Jalil’s book of poetry and a book of poetry from the Auburn men will be available for purchase with some of the proceeds going to Jalil and Auburn poets.
