These Streets Are Speaking! is a storytelling panel comprised of six people in Rochester who have been impacted by police violence and misconduct, either directly or indirectly. The panel will run about an hour and a Know Your Rights workshop, presented by the Genesee Valley chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union, will follow for the second hour.
No doubt there are hundreds if not thousands of stories that talk about police violence in our city. Telling these stories generates strength and courage in the community against the dehumanization and indignity of the Rochester Police Department's violence against the people they are supposed to be serving and protecting.
On May 1st, there will be a community speak-out against police violence at the corner of Bartlett and Jefferson from 6:00PM to 7:00PM. We encourage community to come out, take the megaphone, and speak your truth!
Finally, wrapping up our "Springing into Action Against Police Brutality and Misconduct" series, the people have called for a march against police violence and racism--These Streets Remember--taking place on May 3rd, 2:00PM - 4:00PM, starting at the corner of Bartlett and Jefferson.
It's time for a change. It's time to figure out how to hold our, as Adam McFadden put it, "out of control police force" accountable. Enough Is Enough!
