FREEDOM IS NOT FREE by Ms. LuLu Westbrook-Griffin. This evening LuLu will talk of her experiences as one of 32 Americus, GA girls imprisoned in a old Civil War Bunker in Leesburg, GA following their arrest at a civil rights protest. These girls ranged in age from 10 to 16 and were imprisoned for 42 days without their families knowing where they were located or even if they were alive.
Travis Lewis, of Titan Multimedia Productions, a local Rochester producer, has created a 50 -minute award- winning documentary, LuLu and the Girls of Americus, which will be shown at the beginning of the evenings' events. Following the showing LuLu will tell her personal story, sing some Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SSNC, pronounced "snick") civil rights protest songs that the girls had learned, and answer your questions. There will be popcorn and refreshments served and the evening is free and open to the public. This promises to be a special evening and one you won't want to miss.
