4th Rochester Tweed Ride Rolls Out
Primary tabs
Some 60-70 bicyclists rolled out Sunday morning October 20 2013 for the 4th annual Tweed Ride. Tweed rides are a tradition that started in London, England about twenty years ago. Riders get dressed in 1920's or older vintage clothing and board their vintage bikes if they have them for a leisurely cruise around town. The tradition came to the US a few years ago with rides in Philadelphia, New York, Boston and San Francisco. The Rochester ride started and ended at High Falls near the Genesee Brewery. It headed through several neighborhoods including Mayor's Heights, Corn Hill and the South Wedge. Riders also stopped in Mt Hope Cemetery. The weather started out perfect with bright sunshine and clear blue skies. But clouds began gathering about midway through the trip. Fortunately rain held off until everyone was back indoors.
There will be another ride in October of 2014. A similar event, the Seersucker Social occurs in May. Put that vintage gear away in a safe place!
