WELLSville Veterans Project

Wellsville, NY--Steve came from New Jersey, Toby’s from Indiana and Nick joined them from Detroit. Mike Blake was there for a while but he’s with his family right now. They share a small, green house in Wellsville with photos of friends killed in Iraq and nightmare-memories of a place where the flags on their arms were taken as targets. They live with injuries and problems but also with a sense of compassion so large that it could fill any house, pour into any conversation.

Killing Americans By Health Care Policy

Over and over, I have heard that America has the greatest health care system in the world. Politicians and pundits have repeatedly bragged about the high quality of medical care and medicine in our nation. I always believed the statements without question until recent years. Facts got in the way.

I went looking for the numbers behind the real situation. My grandfather Crockett often said, "Numbers never lies but liars use numbers." The real story told by the numbers is very disturbing.

Stop disastrous Medicaid cuts! Contact your Senators and tell them to support the Smith-Bingaman amendment

I am writing today to ask you to please contact your state's U.S. senators and tell them to support the Smith-Bingaman amendment to strike the $15 billion in Medicaid cuts from the budget resolution and create a bi-partisan Medicaid Commission. I as you to do this today because I am Medicaid beneficiary — a beneficiary of the sort that most people don’t think of when they think of Medicaid recipients.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
