Open documentaries on non-violent struggles in India

A professional filmmaker team recently came back from India with a set of documentaries about non-violent movements in this country.

From the 70's to « Janadesh » the largest non-violent struggle since the independance, where 25,000 landless farmers walked 350km to New Delhi in October 2007 for the recognition or their rights.

These movies are currently being edited, but at the same time the team has opened a website to free the documentaries copyright. Experimenting the "funding and licensing" model to apply Creative Commons licences.

Fidel Castro: What I wrote on Tuesday 19

That Tuesday, there was no fresh international news. My modest message to the people of Monday, February 18 had no problem being widely circulated. I began to receive news from 11:00 a.m. The previous night I slept like never before. My conscience was at rest and I had promised myself a vacation. The days of tension, with the proximity of February 24, left me exhausted.

OpenCongress Demystifies US Congress

Friends of mine run this site called opencongress.org. The idea is to make it easy to get knowledge about what's happening in congress. It's been running for about a year, and it did a nice job making it easy to find out info on bills, congress people, etc.

But what makes the site really exciting is their new social networking features. They make it so that folks can discuss, evaluate and vote on the bills, issues and congress people that are important to them.

I think it's a really awesome site, and will get better and better as they add more ways for folks to collaborate together. Here's what they have to say about the new features

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
