950 AM Rochester To Ditch Air America in favor of a Sports Channel

The Entercom Marketing Results Group (110 stations / 23 markets) is planning a format change in about a half dozen of its radio stations in the near future, including WROC (950am). They are switching the format at these stations from news talk (Air America, et al) to OMG, sports.

If having an alternative to main stream corporate media is important to you, and I guess it is, then I ask that you contact Entercom and voice your concerns.

Indy TV # 10: Myra Brown; Organizer with Rochester ARM (Anti-Racism Mov't)

Rochester ARM (Anti-Racism Movement) has been instrumental in the recent struggle by community members to hold WHAM (Radio 1180) accountable for the racist, sexist and generally derogatory remarks made by Bob Lonsberry, a local right-wing radio talk show host. But the group has been involved in a whole array of proactive programs to lead our community in the project to dismantle institutional racism throughout the past two years. This week on our 10th week of the new Indy TV, ARM organizer Myra Brown, joins us to discuss some of these activities.

In our interview, Myra Brown outlines the importance of confronting the way we've been socialized;

"We have to be willing to recognize that we've learned a lot of stuff wrong about each other. We have to be willing to unlearn those old socializations that have taught us that certain groups are scary, certain groups are incompetent, certain groups are more competent; that taught us that there is this transparent preference for whiteness and anything that doesn't fit into that should be put into the category as outsider…. We have to be willing to have conversations and have listening revolutions, to listen to other peoples' experience in the world and in our own cities and in institutions…we have to take some courage to create opportunities to hear what is hard to hear to make visible what seems invisible"

Fox News: Greg Gutfeld,Adolf Hitler's Jewish Relative,Defends New Yorker Barack Obama Hit Piece

If anyone objects to the thoughts I propose here, which are based on
historic events from Hitler's own life, then they should tune into the
Jewish Greg Gutfeld's own 'Red Eye' program,(for something truly
objectionable),almost any night on Fox 'News' at 3 A.M. Eastern
time,to hear the degenerate Gutfeld himself say, - (often after some
crude remark about some supposed Hispanic or Vietnamese 'house boys'
who he fantasizes forcing homosexual acts upon) - that 'if you don't
agree with me,then, you sir,are worse than Hitler.'

The Odds of Change: A Statistical Look at Our Democrat’s Voting Records

We want change. Obama says he will deliver change, as did the Democrats in '06. Yet nothing could be farther from the truth. Even the statistics prove the Democrats have failed us.

Lonsberry's Racist, Sexist and Classist remarks

Below is a transcript of Bob Lonsberry's remarks on his show, June 10th where he attacked the women in the young mother's program, Rochester Black Scholars and people who support them.

There is a story about um “Girls who got pregnant in high school and they stay in high school and let’s give them a special award and tell them how proud we are of em.”

Or we could tell them they should have left their frickin pants on, right. Keep your legs together uh-sweet cheeks and everything will be ok.

See here is the deal.

Indy TV #6 Steve Kurtz of the Critical Art Ensemble

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 2008-06-23 18:50

#media_2264;left# Steve Kurtz , member of the Critical Art Ensemble and SUNY at Buffalo Visual Arts professor, joins us this week as we discuss the surreal events of these past four years of his life. On May 11, 2004, Steve Kurtz called 911 from his Buffalo, NY home when he found that his wife had died in her sleep. While attending to the call the police became suspicious and called the FBI after they saw parts of Steve's art project that included standard laboratory equipment.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
