CAPITAL PUNISHMENT: CRUELTY AND COST

The recent execution of Angel Nieves Diaz in Jacksonville, Florida has outraged opponents of capital punishment nationwide due to the unusual length of time of the procedure and the apparent pain and suffering Angel Diaz appeared to experience. Stewart Alexander, with the Peace and Freedom Party, says, “The whole process of capital punishment is flawed and the PFP wants federal legislation to band capital punishment in all 50 states; too many mistakes have been made, it’s cruel and inhumane.”

When our drinking water is under attack--What do we do? Act Up! Fight Back!

Hemlock For the past 23 years I have lived in Hemlock. The surrounding environment is absolutely stunning and it makes for an experience to not soon be forgotten. Venturing down to Hemlock or Canadice lakes makes for some pretty rugged wild adventures into the woods where the bears hibernate and the bald eagles soar. Sometimes late at night I can hear the coyotes howling at the moon.

Pinochet, chief of the mass murderers, dies

His death does not mark the end of Pinochetism. People are declaring themselves admirers of his work. Some more shamefully than others, they declare themselves his admirers, his followers, his heirs. They must pay for his entire legacy. The indictment for the crimes of Pinochet's dictatorship, which the human rights organizations have upheld valiantly and tirelessly for years, against his civilian and military collaborators, does not expire with the death of their leader.

Anti-Violence Activist Joy Powell's Message to the Grassroots:

I've been railroaded, raped, and bamboozled. Which is a sham conception of my self being respected as an American citizen. This is what they call the American dream; this is an American nightmare. The City of Rochester is, as well as our society at large is overrun, with corruption, where wicked and powerful people are destroying our City and State for their own personal interests. Anyone who stands up and calls out the spreading cancer for what it is will be struck down and arrested for a crime you did not commit and slander your good name.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
