The importance of unconventional actions

Four years ago, between 500,000 and 800,000 people mobilized in New York City to protest the Republican National Convention. This year during the last week of August, and the first week of September, the 2008 Democratic and Republican Conventions will meet again, and like four years ago, will be opposed.

This year, anti-authoritarian groups are organizing under the name “Unconventional Action” to nationally mobilize direct action during the DNC in Denver and the RNC in St. Paul.

Six buildings are currently boarded up.
Taxpayers have been stuck with millions in unpaid loans.
Seventeen buildings many beset with code violations, including a lack of heat ended up in foreclosure.
To quote from paragraph 2, of the story ( Obama: I didn't know about Rezko problems, by Tim Novak ).

Indy TV #7 Human Trafficking in the Context of Immigrant Rights

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 2008-06-30 20:46

#media_2279;left# In the early days of Capitalism, slaves were a large part of the agricultural work force in the United States. We're often led to believe, in our history courses, that slavery is an aberration contained in the past. However, slavery has continued to exist right up through US History and into the present day. Of course we now have different names and arrangements for slavery. Sweat Shops, Prison Labor, and Human Trafficking are some of these new arrangements.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
