            • Actress Robin Givens of ‘Head of the Class’ fame is once again in the news. Robin has been named in an unusual love triangle by her former husband Mike Tyson. Tyson alleges that whilst the pair were still married Robin had a relationship with a then very young Brad Pitt! Besides being a part of Tyson’s and Pitt’s life, Robin Givens was also part of the ground-breaking, multicultural cast on TV show “Head of the Class.” The show debuted 26 years ago and had seasons which ran from 1986 to 1990. “Head of the Class” portrayed a group of gifted students attending a New York City public high school. The show was not your average sitcom and managed to keep the audience entertained for many years. Tyson and Robin were married in 1988. However, three months later Robin filed for divorce, citing spousal abuse as the main reason. Robin received an estimated $10 million settlement from the divorce. Back then, Pitt had not become the global star that he now is and earned his chops by doing guest appearances on shows like “21 Jump Street” and “Head of the Class.” It is assumed that that is where Pitt met Robin. Tyson only now remember the odd fling as a humorous anecdote, which came to light during this summer when Tyson was appearing on Broadway in his one-man show. The show is titled “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth,” and is directed by Spike Lee. The will soon hit the road for a 36-city national tour that will last 10 weeks. Tyson is now married to his third wife Kiki Spicer, who also wrote his one-man show. Robin Givens played as Darlene Merriman on ‘Head of the Class.’ THEN: Robin played Darlene. A rich and spoiled girl often depicted as shallow. Robin’s character had a competitive streak, which did her well in the class room as well as socially. In a rare episode showing the personal lives of the characters, Robin’s character discovers she (Darlene) is a descendant of Thomas Jefferson’s slave and mistress, Sally Hemings. NOW: Robin Givens, who just turned 48, is primarily known throughout the world, as Mike Tyson’s ex-wife. However her acting career continued well after the show “Head of the Class” stopped airing. Robin co-starred with Eddie Murphy in “Boomerang.” She was also a part of Tyler Perry’s “The Family That Preys,” and also had repeating roles on major TV shows such as “Chuck” and “House of Payne.”

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
