Thousands sign petition to deport CNN’s Piers Morgan over gun control remarks

<p>More than 31,000 Americans have signed a petition to deport British CNN host Piers MorganPiers Morgan after his on air comments over stricter gun control legislation in the United States.<br><br>Last week, in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting, Morgan attacked a pro gun guest on his show calling him an "unbelievably stupid man". Gun rights activists are now fighting back and want the British host to be deported over "exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens," the petition reads.<br><br>The petition created on Dec. 21 on the White House e-petition website by a user in Texas has already reached 25,000 signature threshold to be able to get a White House response. By Monday it had reached 31,813 signatures.<br><br>Morgan, however, remains unfazed over his critics’ response. Despite being panned over calling Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, "an idiot", “dangerous" and "stupid", Morgan once again called for a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines and a background check on all gun purchasers.<br><br>"I don't care about a petition to deport me. I do care about poor NY firefighters murdered/injured with an assault weapon today. #GunControlNow," Morgan tweeted on Monday, referring to another shooting in New York that killed three people, including the gunman.<br><br>The 47 year old later joked that he wonders which countries would like to have him even after being charged for wanting "fewer gun murders".<br><br>"Wanting America to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines isn't anti-constitutional - it's called common sense."<br><br>Morgan asked whether his right to freedom of speech not protected under the First Amendment right?<br><br>While CNN has so far declined to comment on the petition and its possible outcome, publicist, Howard Bragman, vice Chairman of Reputation.com believes that the petition will do more good than harm to the British anchor.<br><br>"A lot of it comes from his being British, he's seen the differences between the US and UK, he's passionate and authentic in taking this issue on, and it's probably only going to help him attract more people to his show," Bragman, told Reuters.<br><br>So far, the petition has not attracted any response from the White House, however, following the school shooting, President Obama called for stricter gun control laws therefore Morgan needs not fear for his citizenship, or his job for that matter.</p>
