The Washington Post reported that tens of thousands of conservative protesters, many complaining that the nation is racing toward socialism, massed outside the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, angrily denouncing President Obama's health-care plan and other initiatives as threats to the Constitution. The New York Times reported thaty they sang verse after verse of patriotic hymns like "God Bless America." "They" include include folks recruited by Tea Party Patriots, ResistNet, and Freedomworks, a Washington-based organization headed by former House majority leader Richard Armey (R-Tex.).
There are many good reasons to be angry at Barack Obama: - He has sided with the military-industrial complex, by supporting the permanent occupation of Iraq and an endless war in Afghanistan - He has sided with the police state by supporting continuation of the Bush regime's National Security Agency spying program, - He has defended military spying within the U.S. - He has refused to prosecute those responsible for the "war crimes" committed by the Bush regime, - He is continuing to imprison and torture captives in Afghanistan. But the majority of these "Tea Party Patriots" aren't concerned by that. After all, these are the same folks who gave their unquestioning support to George Bush while he repeatedly "tea-bagged" the constitution they claim to cherish. The bottom line is these people are huffing, puffing, methane venting, patriotic poseurs, who are pissed off because their party is out of power. — Walter F. Wouk for Rabble Rouser
