• DNC/Obama staffers are holding a "Listening Tour" event at Underground RR. The single payer activist group Rochester For HR 676 is organizing a visibility demonstration beginning at 5pm 8/12 <!--break--> "Rochester For HR 676" to Obama: Everybody In, Nobody Out Single payer health care reform activists will bring their message to the Obama Listening Tour on Wednesday, August 12 beginning at 5:00pm. Rochester For HR 676, a local group advocating single payer universal health care, invites demonstrators to show support for "Medicare for All" at the Obama health care listening tour, organized by Obama and DNC staffers at the Underground Railroad, 480 W. Main Street. Bring signs, banners and your voice to tell Obama that single payer universal health care is the only way to provide health care for everyone while controlling costs. For more information call 317-2367 optional detail/background: Obama staff continue the tactic of listening tours -- but across the country Obama supporters and other progressives have NOT passively accepted the "centrist" agenda - many of us have spoken up loudly in favor of single payer reforms and continue to organize grassroots campaigns for HR 676, "Medicare for All." We are not protesting the Obama event -- our plan is to ensure visible, unequivocal support for progressive health care reform. Now is not the time to give in or give up to corporate greed. Visibility and clear analyses from groups like Rochester for HR 676 are crucial -- we will demonstrate the public has not capitulated to the idea that "any plan" for reform should be supported. Quoting our own Peter Mott, MD, in an essay he wrote this week: "Seventy percent of the public have expressed support for national health insurance. Now that 70% must speak out. The stakes are high: public good vs. corporate profit. Battling the insurance corporations, their lobbyists, and the propaganda that is already spreading - will be tough. But when was democracy ever easy?"

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning. We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site. Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
