• The Winners of The High Falls International Film Audience Award Winner for Best Feature Festival: SKIN and Audience Award Winner for Best Documentary: Signs of the Time <!--break--> The Film "Skin", was the winner of the Audience Award Winner for Best Feature. The film will be shown Monday night at The Little Theatre #1 at 7 p.m. The 2008 film was Director Anthony Fabian's debut feature that tells the true story of Sandra Laing, who experienced South African apartheid. Although she was the biological daughter of a white couple, she was born with black features, hair, and "colored" skin. Her case became a national cause celebre when her parents asked the Supreme Court to classify her as "white." Because apartheid laws forbade people of different races living together, they risked losing her if the court refused. Sam Neill and Alice Krige are cast as her as parents, and Sophie Okonedo, from the Secret Life of Bees and Hotel Rwanda, is cast as Sandra. Signs Of The Times follows the history of baseball perior to the hand signals used by umpires at every baseball game today. SIGNS OF THE TIME is a well researched documentary that festures with many baseball legends. The film explores the origins of these signs that shaped the game and history. SIGNS OF THE TIME is showing Monday Night at Little 1 after SKIN. ENJOY!!

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning. We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site. Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
