A spokesperson for a local group interested in forming a progressive, alternative radio operation in Rochester has announced that "Our next meeting with be at Spot Coffee this coming Tuesday, March 10th at 8pm. Anyone reading this with an interest in being part of a non-corporate radio project for the Rochester community is welcome to join us.
Again, our immediate goal is a net broadcast(streaming audio), simulcast on an unlicensed(but legal) micro-transmission at 1710AM with (hopefully) at least a 2 mile radius from my home in the Highland Hospital area.
Our long term goal is to obtain an LPFM(low power FM) license. While still low power, this would get a much better signal coverage and would be on FM. This won't begin to happen until congress amends the current corporate media sponsored law that restricts government licensed LPFM stations to rural areas. LPFM advocate are cautiously optimistic that the laws might be changed within the next few years.
