ROCLA Monthly Meeting: Crisis in Oaxaca

Program Description: Owen Thompson will provide a history of struggle over land and indigenous rights in Mexico, placing the current situation in Oaxaca in a historical context. Ted Forsyth follows with a time-line of events through the struggle in Oaxaca since May of 2006. After the screening of Brad Will's last footage Sera Brown will address the women's movement and their resistance to oppression in Oaxaca. Wrapping things up, Richard Vallejo will give a brief history of Oaxaca as it entered the globalized world, connecting the current struggle in Oaxaca with struggles in other areas around the world. The presentation will be followed by discussion of the next steps we should consider taking.
