Independent Media Group subMedia (http://submediatv.com) has released its first DVZ (DVD/Zine) ‘‘Molotov’’ as a free download on the Bittorrent network. subMedia founder Franklin Lopez made the announcement last week, after the last ‘hard copy’ of ‘‘Molotov’’ was sold to a costumer in Norway.

Independent Media Group subMedia (http://submediatv.com) has released its first DVZ (DVD/Zine) ‘‘Molotov’’ as a free download on the Bittorrent network. subMedia founder Franklin Lopez made the announcement last week,  after the last ‘hard copy’ of ‘‘Molotov’’ was sold to a customer in Norway.

‘Our goal with this DVZ is not to make money, we simply want to spread art and information. We made our money back and enough to put out a second issue of ‘Molotov’’ said Lopez

‘Molotov’ was released in February as part of subMedia’s 10 year celebration. Like an urban "Foxfire" for culture jammers, the ‘zine portion of ‘Molotov’ is a DIY manual. But, don't expect any recipes for apple butter in this publication, instead, think making your own ski mask for protests or running your car on grease. The DVD portion 'zine includes 14 politically charged shorts films such as POP Films’/DJ Dangermouse’s ‘Bush Boys’ and ‘What Barry Says’ from UK animators Knife Party.

Last but not least, the DVD-ROM portion of the disc comes with three MP3 EP’s, a PDF version of the ‘zine and DVD burning software for Mac and PC that allows folks to copy the entire package.

"We definitely have a specific audience we hope to reach," Lopez explains. "we chose the 'zine format because it has been most closely associated with small, grassroots independent groups and is still out there, doing its own thing despite all the "flash and trash" magazines produced today."

A suitable moniker reflects his philosophy about the 'zine.  "Historically, the ‘Molotov’ Cocktail has been a weapon of the disenfranchised. It's cheap, easy to produce and deliver -  the same principles we've used to produce this  'zine."

The addition of ‘Molotov’, sees subMedia's influences spreading beyond video and visual art into print media.

Lopez continues, ”I'm a filmmaker and a lot of what subMedia has accomplished in the past 10 years has been directly related to video, film and music. But, the organization is about filling a gap and becoming a presence across all media, so I think it is extremely important to have a print presence now. This 'zine is absolutely going to accomplish that for us.”

‘Molotov’ can be downloaded freely at http://submediatv.com

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
