130+ PROTESTS SINCE NOV. 2 -also- DC Police Found "Guilty"

Over 130 separate protest actions have taken place in the US since Nov. 2.
In January alone, there have been nearly 60 demonstrations and marches
protesting against the Bush Administration and the Iraq war. Inauguration
day saw 43 separate actions in as many cities from coast to coast.

These actions have been largely ignored by the main stream media.
The 130+ protests since the election have taken place in the rain and
cold in many instances by groups of brave citizens who have come to the
conclusion that it's time to get off the couch and let the government
know that change is needed. With Spring-time, the demonstrators will,
no doubt, increase in numbers.

The vast majority of these demonstrations were non-violent, and these
people should be applauded for excersizing their right to free speech.
There have been hundreds of arrests, and in Washington, DC, the city
settled a law suit out of court for unjust arrests in a demonstration that
occurred 28 months ago. The settlement requires the payment of
$425,000 to the protesters and an apology from the Police Chief.
"The lawsuit, filed by the American Civil Liberties Union, was one
of four brought against the city following the incident. The others
remain unsettled."

A website has been created exclusively for reports of dissent against
the War in Iraq and the US Government with links to each of the reports
of dissent activity. The site was experiencing difficulty that has been
resolved.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
