Thousands of anti-war protesters took to the streets around the world on Saturday to commemorate the third anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. In Rochester a small crowd met at the Liberty Pole carrying handmade signs that reflected their disatisfaction with the Bush Agenda in Iraq.
Rochester Against war along with MoveOn.org, Peace Action and Education Task
Force of Metro Justice, the International Socialist Organization, RIT Antiwar, Green Party of Monroe County, House of Mercy, Code Pink, Poor People's Coalition of Rochester, Rochester Chapter Campaign To End The Death Penalty, 1199 SEIU Healthcare Workers East, and others co-sponsored the event.
The weather was a cold 29 degrees with the wind chill making it feel like 16 degrees as the activists moved in a circle around the Liberty Pole . After 25 minutes they headed out on their march to Martin Luther King School on N. Clinton Avenue. A small police contingent was present to observe the protestors.
In hope, this writer will not be covering this event next year.
