New Editorial Policy on Certain Comments

For the last few months an anonymous poster has been frequently leaving comments that are disruptive, personal attacks and that have certainly not helped create meaningful or useful discussion. (Some examples: 1 2 3 4 ).

Because these comments seem to be written with the intention of creating a negative emotional response rather than any sort of constructive debate, because they are based on assumptions that are not always true, because they rarely address the substance of articles directly, and because there has now been a long history of similar, repetitious comments, we have decided to hide all similar comments by this poster on our newswire.

Allowing anonymous comments means that it can be difficult to figure out where comments are coming from. As far as we can tell, there is a single poster and he has mostly posted as "anonymous", but sometimes has used "Revolutionary Alliance of the Working Class." It's possible that these posts are coming from different sources, but we doubt it. In any case, any posts that contain similar language and tone to the posts we have seen will be hidden.

The one exception will be this thread. We will just be following our standard editorial policy here.

Re: New Editorial Policy on Certain Comments

What you are doing is basically placing some of the only intelligent, spirited, and unflinching commentary that regularly appears on this forum in a ghetto.

ALL of the comments adress the substance of the articles directly - in fact, most of the comments quote the articels directly, paragraph by paragrarh, and point for point, and adress the counter comments in the same through-going fashion.

So what you are doing by claiming otherwise is, in fact, LYING THROUGH YOUR TEETH.

Why you are doing it is because the Author's commentary - and his assesment of the backgorund of his targets, and their motives - is dead on.

What you are doing by censoring this person - let's call a spade a spade, it is censorship, of the lowest and rankest order - and this person and the 'Alliance' are not the same source - what you are doing is exposing nothing but your own laughable cowardice and lack of willingness to confront the very serious issues presented by the Author.

If you don't appreciate the Author's sens of humor, it's because you are a gutless moron and a prude.

Re: Re: New Editorial Policy on Certain Comments

yeah god forbid we have anyone attacking the President, capitalists, and hypocrites here. Let's see if we can't get this person arrested or something....

Re: New Editorial Policy on Certain Comments

Censorship? I suppose, but I also feel that it doesn't matter much either way. The Anon responses are simply too extreme to respond back to, so it doesn't matter if they disappear. I guess if people stop posting original articles because this site becomes known as a censored site, then that's a problem, but I don't think we're at that point.

Re: Re: New Editorial Policy on Certain Comments

Yeah 'too extreme' = the poster actually speaks with convicition and is uttering some basically undeniable truths which cut too close to home for the hypocritcal moderators of Rochester Indymedia.
It is censorship, plain and simple; it is despicable, cowardly, and vile; it is the act of foul creatures who have so little belief in their own endeavours that they are terrified of the slightest amount of inspection or critique.

Re: Re: Re: New Editorial Policy on Certain Comments

I think that Rochester Indymedia is being very foolish in cesoring these posts. I think that its reputation is slipping because of it.

Regardless of teh vehemnce of tone, there are some serious points being made here and I think that they shouldn't be dodged.

The idea that someone should be censored for criticizing the President or the capitalist establishment in general is shameful.

Re: New Editorial Policy on Certain Comments

And of course, anything that presents Islam in an unfavorable light, or portrays Israel as positive in any way will also be immediately banned and blocked

Re: Re: New Editorial Policy on Certain Comments

A quick glance through the global newswire contradicts this argument pretty strongly

Re: Re: Re: New Editorial Policy on Certain Comments

Why have comments critical of the President and of the Democratic Party been censored? Surely you are not so naive as to believe that such 'targets' are free from reproach.

Would you like me to post an itemized list of the lies Obama has told, complete with verification?

I will gladly oblige.

Or will you fall back on the typically spurious assertion that any critic of Obama must naturally be a racist or right wing extremist?

That's the tytpical m.o. of the knee-jerk liberal..
