report back from Dec. 30 Gaza rally in Buffalo, NY
Primary tabs
Around 200. A lot of arab came out, mostly Palestinian but a few Yemenis although more should have came.
There were whites who belonged to the original group who organized the rally. But once I found out I helped along with a few
others spread the word throughout facebook and word of mouth. Their usuall group is quite small.
This was my first rally, and I wasn't really sure what exactly happens. The group started off small, but we managed to start
chants, like stop the killings, stop the crimes, free free palestine. There were long live palestine, stop the bombings on gaza
now. One of the older men used the speaker and we basically started repeating after him. The atmoshpere was terrific. There were
many signs, and a lot of flags. We did the rally on elmwood and bidwell during rush hour. Cars that supported would drive by and
honk their horns. The chants never started until the rally ended. Everyone was together, waving flags, screaming, cars honking,
its hard to imagine the scene but I hope that helps. Also people even came and handed out flags, and a group of us made a
considerable amount of signs to hand out. A little tip also, bring gloves!
The signs included:
Free Palestine End the Siege
Gaza Massacre Over 300 Dead, More than 600 wounded, Genocide?
End Gaza Massacre
Palestinian Children Shouldnt be missle targets
How many more children must die
Occupation is the problem not the solution
U.S. tax dollars fund Israeli bombs
The event was sponsored by Organization of Arab Students(OAS) and United nations SA at University at Buffalo as well as Lackawanna Discussion Group Commission on Rights (LDG-COR).
