I guess I should clear up one thing... The contest is for a logo for printed stuff, so submissions should try to limit the number of colors used to just a 1 or 2. Each color used adds costs to the printing, so please keep it simple.

Just jumping in as a "conceptual artist" here. That’s as good as I get so I have to make it sound artistic. I like Indymedia Arizona and Pennsylvania indymedia incorporating some meaningful local image to make it unique and stand out. Rochester... we have a few things...Fredrick Douglass, Emma Goldman, maybe incorporating something symbolic about them or something well known about the city. I like the biker holding out her fist and in her bike box in the back are tools AND a microphone, or we could add the microphone into the bikers hand, with the indymedia )))I((( symbol coming off the microphone.
