September 29 - Anarchist Contingent
Primary tabs
Anarchist and anti-authoritarian contingent at September, 29.
Calling all anti-authoritarians and anarchists in the Upstate, Central, Western, Southern Tier,
Northern Country and Capital District areas of New York State:
Attention brothers, sisters, neighbors and comrades:
Please forward to comrades, collectives and friends.
On Saturday, September 29: We call for an anti-authoritarian/anarchist contingent for the regional mobilization against the war in Syracuse, NY, initiated by the Iraq Veterans Against the War at Fort Drum.
Anarchists, anti-authoritarians and all others committed to building a world free of all forms of oppression, injustice and hierarchy are encouraged to gather at Columbus Circle at the corner of E Jefferson and Montgomery Streets. Bring signs, banners, flags, drums, buckets, and other instruments and objects to make some noise!
Shortly before 1:00 PM we will move from Columbus Circle to Everson Plaza where the opening rally will begin.
Below are the Action Guidelines agreed upon for the events on September 29, with special attention to the second point concerning Civil Disobedience and active duty soldiers. We do not wish to compromise or in any way bring risk to our comrades who are active duty soldiers struggling to end current and all other wars which benefit the capitalist and ruling class.
Let this contingent be only the beginning of our work together. We will gather and march together, as well as meet after the march and rallies to network and strategize. It is time to build a more united movement for the complete abolition of all forms of oppression, injustice and hierarchy - to strengthen the links between our cities to build a world based on solidarity, cooperation, mutual aid, justice and self-determination for all communities and all people.
View a map of the location here. Note that this location is roughly a block west, and a block North of the Plaza where the rally will begin at 1:00 PM. . More information on the events for Saturday can be found at www.upstateantiwar.net, including contacts for transportation and housing. Housing can be provided for all participants in this contingent at one location. Please contact vallejo@riseup.net for housing at this location or any further information regarding the contingent.
Not their war, nor their peace.
In solidarity,
Your friends and comrades in Syracuse, NY
Action Guidelines adopted for 9/29 events:
1) In order to establish a sense of trust and safety, the Upstate
Anti-War Network asks those who participate in the September 29 demonstration to observe the following basic guidelines:
-Act respectfully toward all people we encounter.
-Refrain from any physical violence or abusive language.
Please remember that we are taking part in political action, and that our behavior influences the way we are perceived in the community we are seeking to engage.
2) Event organizers have agreed that Civil Disobedience (CD) would not be part of the 9/29 events given that:
- both active duty soldiers and individuals not experienced in and/or with comfortable with CD will be participating on 9/29
- there are no real strategic targets for CD near event venues on the day of the event
-all 9/29 events organized by UNYAN will be legal and permitted
3) Those who might wish to participate in CD would be asked to do their action after 9/29 and are encouraged to discuss their action plans with the Syracuse Peace Council (SPC) well ahead of time to coordinate.
