Fairport Police Question 4 Supporters / Police Review Personal Digital Cameras without Consent / Force 1 Supporter (so far) to Leave Area
Hey everyone,
Currently Fairport Police have detained two anti-war protesters and told another to leave the area after being given a trespassing ticket and reviewing the photographs on activists’ cameras.
Cindy, one activist, had approached the people in the Welker Property Management office in Packett’s Landing asking if they wanted some lunch. Another activist, Louise, took a photo of the exchange. This set off the property owner who subsequently called police and had the three activist—Louise, Wendy and Cindy—detained. So far, Cindy was given a trespassing summons and Wendy and Louise are currently being questioned.
Police were also looking through personal belongings and reviewing photos on activists’ cameras.
When Louise was being brought into questioning, she was asked for her camera. She said she didn’t have it. At this point, the police, seeing me with my camera, demanded to know if it was mine. I responded that it was. Louise said that my camera wasn’t her camera. To “check†our stories he asked me what kind of camera I owned and how many mega pixels it had. He asked to see the camera. When I refused he told me it wasn’t a question but a demand and took the camera off my wrist. He then proceeded to look though my photos and joked that he saw a “good one†of himself. He also stated that he wasn’t the “bad guyâ€.
Again, Wendy and Louise are still being detained. If anyone would like to join us in support please come to Packet’s Landing in Fairport. We might be in or near the library across the street. The occupation of Kuhl’s office is continuing. It seems like the police have found if they can remove the support structure for the occupiers then maybe it will be that much easier to remove the occupiers themselves. If you have a camera or video camera please bring it down!
