Re: BB Guns, Circuses, Blackberrys, and the Breakdown of Justice: A reportback from Tyquan Rivera's pretrial hearing

I just did a quick review of corporate media descriptions of the story and it made me sick.

Worst: RNews claims that the gun was not only a 22-caliber riffle, but the actual shooting weapon. www.rnews.com/content/top_stories/474362/teen-accused-of-shooting-cop-appeared-in-court/

Terrible: Channel 10 reports calls it "a gun" without any reference to the fact that the boy said it was a BB-gun. www.whec.com/news/stories/S971428.shtml

Bad: Channel 13 and D&C say that the boy thought it was a BB-gun, but they way the report it they make you doubt that it actually was. I don't believe there is any reason at this point to question that the gun was in fact a BB gun. How do you sell someone a weapon, thinking it's a BB gun, but it's actually a 22-caliber? www.13wham.com/news/local/story/Witnesses-Place-Rivera-at-Shooting-Scene/-cN1TOFffk6CgwnJ2_lncw.cspx www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20090611/NEWS01/906110347/1002/NEWS

This looks like a case of the corporate media and the police working hand-in-hand to convict this child. If I had to guess, what happened was this: The police officer gets testimony that some 13-year old sold Tyquan a BB gun. He turns that into told Tyquan "what he thought was" a BB gun. Then the media turns it into he sold him the actual murder weapon.
