Re: Anti-War Storefront "Crisis Center" is Open for Peace!

I've asked for confirmation on these rumours, which Metro Justice has declined to comment. Jon Greenbaum seemed to confirm the bequest rumor, but wouldn't say how much.

Am I wrong? This doesn't make any sense. The tax returns ARE accurate... it gets to be borderline fraud to fundraise just for the sake of fundraising without spending money on the programming. Which seems to be the case. MJ declined to spend almost half its revenue ($181k) at the end of 2005 and you guys are doing your own fundraising and PAYING the MJ office.

I read the MJ newsletter about how MJ's begging for a used microwave to feed it's volunteers... it's too much for me to swallow.

Obviously, I can't confirm the rumor of the bequest with MJ, but I don't see why it can't be made open to the public.

Especially since Metro Justice is slamming COMIDA for giving a $348,000 tax exemption that's loosely tied to job/economic development.

How can MJ slam COMIDA, when it's doing the same thing?

MJ is sucking up what little funding is available in the community. When MJ solicits and attracts donations, it deprives everyone else of that money. For MJ to fundraise and then "sit" on the money, which is what their tax returns seem to show, it hurts the entire community. Just like when the COMIDA tax breaks deprive the school districts of funding. Apparently even less strings are attached to MJ's recieved funding than the funding the Brighton Lodging recieved.
