On February 14, 2013, Rochester, NY participated in a world wide event, "One Billion Rising", to bring attention to the issue of violence against women and girls. Participants danced to the song "Break the Chain" for as Emma Goldman said, "A revolution without dancing is not a revolution worth having."
February 11, 2013. Loud cars, high winds and falling water from melting snow on the roof of City Hall couldn't muffle Alex White's announcement that he intends to run once again for Mayor of Rochester NY. One of the issues he is challenging is how we police the city. White last ran for Mayor in 2008 and for City Council in 2010.
Facing foreclosure, Mary of Smith of 53 Cutler Street, Rochester, NY 14621, is pledging to stay in her home and not let American Tax Funding put her out of her longtime home. Take Back the Land Rochester is pledging to support her.
I know most of you who personally know me are in disbelief to hear from media reports that I am suspected of committing such horrendous murders and have taken drastic and shocking actions in the last couple of days. You are saying to yourself that this is completely out of character of the man you knew who always wore a smile wherever he was seen. I know I will be villified by the LAPD and the media.

Is Gentrification necessary for urban revival? What are the possibilities for resisting gentrification? What organizations are working against it? What are the roles of community groups and centers?
March 22, 2012: Demonstrators gather at the Liberty Pole in Rochester, NY to denounce the fact that the alleged killer of Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman, still hadn't been charged with a crime and was free. Current events continue to inform us about these same issues--stand your ground laws and gun control, mass shootings and gun violence, and racism. Therefore, we felt this was worth putting up and certainly timely.
This interview from 2011 is with Virginia Henry--the homeowner for 11 Appleton St.--being helped by Take Back The Land. In this interview, she explains the issues with her home and a then-recent trespassing arrest for being in her home. Don Frazier from Take Back The Land offers his views on the situation. Ms. Henry's case is still unresolved as of 2013. She is currently pursuing legal recourse while her home remains boarded up and vacant.

The these for the 15th Annual Rochester Commemoration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was based on a book written by Michelle Alexander: "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness." Speakers included Ream Kidane with a call for solidarity and action, Dr. Marvin McMickle giving the Keynote Address, and Rosemary Rivera, Ricardo Adams, and Maurice Miller--dedicated activists and community members--sitting on a panel relating their experiences of mass incarceration.
